Havell plans more acquisitions abroad, eyes SEZs within

Panaji, June 9 (UNI) Electrical and power distribution equipment major Havell's India Limited, the flagship company of Qismat Rai Gupta (QRG) Enterprises, has planned to enlarge its operations by acquiring more companies abroad besides opening more units within, particularly in the upcoming special economic zones (SEZ) shortly.

''We have already acquired Geyer in Greece recently and are looking for more acquisitions abroad. At the sametime, we are eying on upcoming SEZ's particularly in the South and the West including Goa to open our manufacturing units,'' said V N Viswanathan, General Manager of Havell.

Unfolding its expansion plans within and outside the country, Mr Viswanathan said the company which has four units in the North, was poised to achieve Rs 2000 crore turnover in the current fiscal as against Rs 1300 crore in the previous fiscal.

He said the company achieved Rs 1,115 crore turnover and has been registering a constant 40 per cent growth with demand for energy saving equipment including fans and miniature circuit breakers (MCB) and compact fluoroscent lamps.

''We envisage at least 25 per cent our revenues from exports alone in the next three years. The company had recorded a three times growth of USD 8 million in the previous year and targets to cross USD 22 million in the current year,'' said Sanjiv Dham, the company's Vice President.

He claimed that the company was the largest in manufacture of MCB's and the fourth largest in the world, poised to browbeat the rival soon.

Its international business division, spread over 52 countries in London, Dubai, Sri Lanka, China, Nigeria and Dhaka and distribution network in all major countries. In fact,52 per cent of the MCB's sold in UK were from Havell's company, he said.

Its quality products have earned global recognition through international approvals like CSA, KEMA, CB, SEMCO, SIRIUM (Malaysia), SPRING (Singapore), TSE (Turkey), SNI (Indonesia) and EDD (Bahrain).

The company officials latter addressed a dealers conclave to work out growth plans in Goa, where they expect a Rs 10 crore annual turnover with quality conscious people in the state.
