Goods transporters to protest
Pondicherry, June 10 (UNI) The Pondicherry goods transporters association and Pondicherry lorry owners and the booking agents association will participate in the one day strike called by the All India Motor Transport Congress on June 13 against the hike on petrol and diesel prices.
Addressing a press conference here today, Goods transporters association president Ezhumalai and Lorry owners and booking agents association President Muthukumaran said that no lorry would ply and no transport office would function from 0600 hrs on June 13 to 0600 hours on June 14.
They said the price hike for petroleum products will not only affect the goods transporters,but also the common people as it would lead to increase in prices in different sectors.
Five hundred to 600 hundred lorries are plying in and out of Pondicherry daily and an additional Rs 300 would have to be spent on each lorry daily because of the hike.
