Wurz quickest in low-key British GP practice

SILVERSTONE, England, June 9 (Reuters) Austrian Alexander Wurz lapped quickest for Williams in a low-key first practice session for the British Formula One Grand Prix today.

Only eight race drivers set timed laps at a sunny Silverstone, with Toyota's Italian Jarno Trulli, who has yet to score a point this season, the fastest of those who will be starting on Sunday.

Wurz lapped in one minute 21.946 seconds.

Trulli was only fourth on the timesheets behind a trio of Friday test drivers -- Wurz, Honda's Anthony Davidson 0.057 behind and BMW's Robert Kubica third.

Ferrari's Michael Schumacher, in confident mood despite the furore he created in Monaco qualifying two weeks ago when he was stripped of pole position for deliberately stopping on the track, was fifth quickest.

The German spun without damage towards the end of the session.

Renault's world champion Fernando Alonso and team mate Giancarlo Fisichella sat out the session after venturing out for a routine installation run without setting a time.

Alonso, winner of four of the seven races so far, leads Schumacher by 21 points in the standings.

Neither McLaren driver completed a lap, preferring to save their engines for a high-speed weekend after the tight and twisty streets of Monaco.
