Imphal, June 9 (UNI) With World Cup fever in the air, people in Manipur are talking only of two things--football and power crisis.

People are apprehensive that they would not be able to watch World Cup due to heavy load shedding.

Sports lovers, however, got some respite as Power Minister Francis Ngajokpa assured that power supply would not be disrupted.

Large areas of the state have been facing blackouts for the last six months due to non-availability of power transformers.

People demonstrated in front of electricity offices urging power officials to repair their transformers.

The Power Minister said the government has earmarked Rs one crore to run the Leimakhong heavy fuel and other power stations so that people can enjoy World Cup.

The National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) has also assured to provide adequate power, Mr Francis said.

The Chief Engineer (Power) has appealed to the people not to waste power during the month as it may disturb power supply.

Even the shops selling televisions sets were packed with buyers.

The television companies are offering heavy discounts and prizes were announced.

In some shops people had to book sets as they were no stock.
