Wanted gangster shot dead

New Delhi, June 9 (UNI) The Delhi police have shot dead a member of the Bholu and Rakesh Banjara gang, wanted in several cases of murder, dacoity, robbery and extortion in Haryana and Delhi, near the Vasant Vihar area of South Delhi.

Mukesh Chakkarpur, a resident of Gurgaon, was killed in an encounter with Special Cell of the Delhi Police near Jawaharlal Nehru University around midnight last night, police said.

Acting on a tip-off that the gangster would come to Delhi from Gurgaon at around midnight, police waited for him on the ridge road near the Kishangarh to the JNU road.

As soon as he arrived in a Maruti car at 2315 hours, he was intercepted by the police who asked him to surrender upon which he started firing indiscriminately.

An encounter followed in which the notorious criminal was seriously injured and taken to hospital where he was declared brought dead.

A 0.9 mm pistol with magazine, one maruti car and 10 live 9mm cartridges were recovered from him.

Mukesh had been involved in at least 30 cases of murder, dacoity, robbery, extortion and attempt to murder.
