Spl Action Group to be set up against naxals: Pasricha
Nagpur, June 9 (UNI) Maharashtra Director General (DG) of Police P S Pasricha today said that a Special Action Group (SAG) will soon be set up on the lines of Andhra Pradesh's ''Grey Haunts'' to counter the destructive activities of the naxalites in the state.
Talking to reporters here, Mr Pasricha said the SAG would function under the existing anti-naxalites organisation (ANO) and it would have commandos armed with sophisticated arms and weapons.
The DG, who arrived here last night to review the security situation in Vidarbha in the backdrop of slain three terrorists in Nagpur, said the state Intelligence Bureau would be strengthened further following the information gathered after the killing of terrorists in Nagpur and seizure of a cache of lethal weapons and explosives from militants in Aurangabad, Nashik and Mumbai.
Asserting that the state police would be fully equipped with modern sophisticated weapons and communication systems, he said one unit of anti-terrorists squad (ATS) would be set up in Aurangabad for the Marathwada region and another one in Nagpur for Vidarbha within three months. The ATS would operate to eradicate urban terrorism and ANO would operate against the naxalism in rural districts in the state, he added.
