Sensex spurts 500 points to close at 9810.46

Mumbai June 9 (UNI) In a strong buying momentum which persisted throughout the day, Sensex made a strong recovery and spurted 500 points in the intra-day trade to close at 9810.46 points, the highest ever increase in a single day.

There has been an improved performance in all the major markets of the world, Nikkei which saw the worst ever fall yesterday today made a strong recovery its average rose 0.81 per cent and added 117.81 points, to close at 14,750.84.

Similarly S&P CNX Nifty rose by 141.95 points or 5.2 per cent to close at 2866.30 points compared to the previous close of 2724.35 points.

All the BSE sectoral incices today closed in the red, led by Oil and Gas, which was up 8.62 per cent and followed by metals, Consumer Durables, Capital Goods, MidCap and SmallCap which all increased by 4.5 to 7.5 per cent.

The scrips which gained on the sensex today were - Reliance Energy, Grasim, Reliance Indusries, HDFC, ITC, NTPC, BHEL, ACC, L&T and Tata Steel, all up by 7.0 to 15 per cent.

Besides the major losers on the index were- Zee Telefilms, Nicholas Piramal, PNB, Moser Baer,Sesa Goa, Nestle Ltd and BPCL all down by 0.8 to 2.88 per cent MORE UNI VS PM AG1712
