Robbery bid foiled, 5 arrested in Mumbai
Mumbai, Jun 9 (UNI) The police today foiled a robbery bid by arresting five people, who had gone to a five star hotel here to rob a foreign tourist of US dollars worth Rs one lakh.
Senior Police Inspector Pradeep Shinde said acting on a tip-off a police team laid a trap at Hotel Holiday-Inn at Santacruz in Mumbai North West at about 1400 hrs and intercepted a six-member gang, who had gone there to rob the foreign tourist who was in possession of US dollars worth Rs one lakh.
They succeeded in nabbing five gang memers, while one managed to escape from the spot, he said.
Police have identified the arrested accused as Sunil Bandsode (35), Babu Shiv Saran (31), Munna Mangi (23), Mohammed Hussain Khan (21) and Arvind Singh (30).
All of them were booked under section 398 (robbery) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and would be produced in Andheri court tomorrow, Mr Shinde said and added that 40 cases of house-breaking have been registered against Arvind Singh in the jurisdication of Mumbai Police Commissionarate.
