Moily briefs PM about progress of oversight panel on quota

New Delhi, Jun 9 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was today briefed about the progress of the Oversight Committee formed to draw up a road map for implementation of 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in higher educational institutions.

Former Karnataka Chief Minister Veerappa Moily, who is chairman of the panel, today apprised Mr Singh of the work done so far when he went to submit to him the first report fo the Second Administrative Reforms Commission.

After his meeting with the Prime Minister, he told reporters that he apprised the Prime Minister of the decision of the panel to hold a colloquium on the quota issue in order to arrive at a national consensus.

The Oversight Committee which held its third meeting yesterday intends to present an interim report to the Prime Minister before the final report the deadline for which is August 31.

The 13-member committee headed by Moily was set up last month with the Prime Minister's approval and it has prominent scholars and experts in its various sub-groups.
