Mercury shots up to 42.8 degrees C

New Delhi, June 9 (UNI) After a brief tryst with cool weather last week, it seems Delhiites are in for searing hot days ahead! The mercury in the capital shot up to 42.8 degrees celsices today, nearly three degrees above normal.

Infact, it was the first time since the last ten days that the mercury has crossed the 42 degrees mark. It was a sharp rise, from 41.4 degrees celsices yesterday.

A mainly clear sky and bright sunlight led to searing hot conditions, forcing most people to remain indoors.

After three days of pleasant weather over the last weekend, which saw cool South Easterly winds and a heavily overcast sky plummet the mercury to eight to ten degrees below normal, the mercury has witnessed a rising trend all through this week.

From nearly 30 degrees celsices over the weekend, mercury rose to 38.3 degrees on Monday, and subsequently to 40 degrees celsices on Tuesday, to 40.4 degrees on Wednesday, and 41.4 degrees celsices yesterday.

Weathermen say the coming days are likely to witness a further rise in mercury.

The weather office has forecast a mainly clear sky with dust or haze during the next 24 hours. They have also forecast a maximum temperature of 42 degrees celsices tomorrow.
