Man commits suicide suspecting wife's loyalty

Fatehgarh Sahib, Jun 9 (UNI) Disturbed by his wife's alleged infidelity, a man committed suicide by jumping into a canal in Kheri Naudh Singh village of this district early this morning.

Gurpreet Singh (30) reportedly left his house about 0430 hrs and telephoned his neighbours that he was going to commit suicide by jumping into a nearby canal, police said.

A number of villagers immediately reached near the canal but found him missing while a cycle, clothes, shoes and a piece of paper were found lying near a bridge on the canal. However, his body was yet to be recovered, they said.

In a suicide note he left behind, Gurpreet claimed that his wife had illicit relations with another youth of the same village. He had also written that his wife's infidelity had led him to take the extreme step as he could not bear with the ''taunts'' of the people.

Police said Gurpreet's wife had gone to her parental house along with their two children some months ago due to the strained relations between them.

The villagers and relatives were making efforts to locate the Gurpreet's body when the last reports came in.
