HC vacates order, Panchayat polls soon

Hyderabad, Jun 9 (UNI) A Division Bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court today vacated the orders of a single judge that imposed restrictions on the Panchayati Raj department and the State Election Commissioner from issuing election notification for the coming local body elections.

With the Court's order, the decks were clear for the Election Commissioner to issue election notification.

The bench comprising Chief Justice G S Singhvi and Justice G Seetapathi Rao, while allowing a series of appeals filed by the State Panchayat Raj Department and State Election Commissioner against the orders of the single judge dated June 1, observed that the directions of the single judge were general in nature and did not address the alleged irregularities in the preparation of electoral rolls.
