Geelani granted bail on health grounds
Jammu, Jun 9 (UNI) Chairman of the breakway faction of Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani was today granted bail on health grounds by a local court.
Geelani, filed a bail application on health grounds as he was fitted with a pacemaker and was suffering with some other ailment.
The district and sessions court judge AK Shan granted the bail to the separatist leader on health grounds but asked him to furnish bonds of Rs 50,000 each in all the three cases and surities of equal amount.
Geelani was taken into custody on June 7 in the outskirts of Poonch town when he was heading towards Mandi, Surankote and Mendhar towns for addressing public gatherings. He was arreseted in connection with three cases relating to inciting communalism , fundamentalism and working against the country, registered in 2001 at the three police stations.
He was later produced before the court, which sent him to three weeks judicial custody till June 29. He was shifted to Jammu central jail yesterday.
