Four NLFT rebels surrender, three insurgents arrested

Agartala, June 9 (UNI) Five top-ranking rebels, including a 'self styled Lieutenant' belonging to the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), surrendered to the authority and three top Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) militants of Meghalaya were arrested in Tripura's North Tripura district during the last 72 hours.

According to police here today , five insurgents of NLFT (BM) including 'self styled' lieutenant Rabindra Debbarma, laid down arms yesterday before the SDPO of Kanchanpur at Anandabazar at a simple ceremony. The militants deposited a .9mm Chinese made pistol, 26 rounds of cartridges, two Chinese made hand grenade and some incriminating documents to the police officials.

The surrendered lieutenant informed that he joined underground outfit eleven years ago. At first, he went to Cherapunjee in Meghalaya, close to Bangladesh border and then went to the Sajak base camp in that country.

In another incident, the BSF jawans on patrol captured three hardcore militants of Meghalaya based HNLC from Baithongbari border with Bangladesh in North Tripura's Dharmanagar subdivision on Tuesday.

Police said the BSF jawans on duty saw three persons close to the Bangladesh border at about 1900 hours. BSF jawans captured them and handed over to Dharmanagar police. Interrogation was on.

Three sharp weapons and some Bangladeshi currency were recovered from the possession of the arrested militants.
