Former RS member K Gopalan dead

Kozhikode,Jun 9 : Former Rajya Sabha Member and socialist leader K Gopalan died here today after prolonged illness.

Mr Gopalan(88), a former Kerala Unit President of the Janata Dal (U) represented the state in the Upper House as a Congress-backed independent from 1982 to 1988.

He is survived by two daughters and two sons.

A member of the Madras Legislative Council from 1953 to 1956, he was also the editor of the defunct ''Deenabandhu'' and ''Janavani'' Malayalam dailies.

The funeral will take place at Mavoor Road Crematorium tomorrow, family sources said.
