Express Highway Flyover on Delhi-Gurgaon section opened

New Delhi, June 9 (UNI) Union Minister of Shipping Road Transport and Highways T R Baalu today opened the 1100 m long flyover at Rajeev Chowk across Gurgaon-Sohna Road on the Delhi-Gurgaon Section of National Highway No. 8 on a trial basis for public.

It is expected that the whole project, costing about Rs 700 crore, would be completed by 2007.

Upon completion, the Express Highway will be operated at International standards with facilities like highway patrolling, 24 hours project surveillance, incident management, relief for accident victims, crane services, medical assistance and any other help required by the stranded motorists.

The project is starting from junction of NH-8 with Rao Tula Ram Marg and ends at km 42.00 of NH-8 in Haryana. The total length of the Highway is 27.7 km.

Out of this, 22.33 km would be widened to eight lanes and balance 5.37 km would be widened to six lanes.

It also includes nine flyovers/over bridges to provide signal free flow of traffic on the main National Highway.

Besides this, there will also be signal free access to Domestic and International terminals of the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The Minister reviewed the progress of the project of the Delhi-Gurgaon Section of NH-8 which is being upgraded to 8/6 lane facility by National Highways Authority of India on Built Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis.

Mr Baalu asked the Ministry and NHAI officials to effectively coordinate with the other agencies to ensure that the project is completed expeditiously.

Adequate provision has also been made for safe passage of Pedestrians by providing four pedestrian subways and two foot over bridges at different locations.
