DPI comes out with list for local body polls
Pondicherry,Jun 9 (UNI) The Dalit Panthers of India (DPI) today released the list of candidates for the first phase of the local body elections in the union territory.
Addressing a press conference here today, DPI Leader Thol Thirumavalavan said the party had been allocated 31 seats in the AIADMK alliance.
Releasing the names of nine candidates, the DPI leader said the party was contesting two municipal council and seven commune panchayat seats in the Karaikal region.
Mr Thirumavalavan said the DPI continued to be in the AIADMK alliance and the party was satisfied with the allocation of 31 seats for the local body elections.
The candidates for the second and third phase of the elections would be announced in a couple of days.
He said the PMC breaking ties with the AIADMK was painful and called up on PMC Founder President P Kannan to reconsider the decision.
