Dara Singh ends his fast unto death
Baripada, June 9 (UNI) Dara Singh, the man sentenced to life in the Staines murder case, has withdrawn his fast-unto-death inside the Baripada circle jail after Jail authorities agreed to concede to his demand for raising the monthly quota of bathing soaps for prisoners.
Dara Singh had resorted to indefinite fast inside the jail from June 7 for doubling the quota of soap issued to each prisoner. He had dinner in the jail last night.
The Baripada Circle Jail Superintendent when contacted said the monthly quota of bathing soap for 406 convicts in the jail will be raised from 55 gm to 125 gm.
The decision was taken by Anup Kumar Patnaik, Inspector General of Prisons, Orissa, on the basis of a petition made earlier by more than 600 inmates of Baripada Jail.
The undertrial prisoners will, however, get a fortnightly quota of 55 gm of bathing soap. As the duration of undertrial prisoners could not be predicted, they would get a fortnightly quota of 55 gms of soap.
