Centre should provide the road map for duty restructuring on petro
New Delhi, June 9 (UNI) The BJP today dubbed the move of the Congress ruled governments to reduce the sales tax on petrol and diesel as 'diversionary tactics' and said that common man can not benefit unless the Centre provided a road map for duty reduction and restructuring.
Commenting on the move of the Congress ruled states to reduce Sales Tax in their states, BJP Spokesman Prakash Javadekar said this smacks of one upmanship effort. The intention is not to help the people in distress but to score political points, he charged, adding that it will neither help the Congress or the people who were made to pay through the noses".
He said without Centre showing the way by reducing customs and excise duty and call a meeting of Chief Ministers and State Finance Ministers, prices could not be kept under check uniformly.
Prices of petrol and diesel can't be checked by such ham handed and half baked attempts, he said.
Asked if the BJP ruled governments would follow suit, Mr Javadekar said the Centre should take the lead because the BJP has been maintaining that the tax component on petroleum and diesel products was as high and it was this kind of unjustified taxes that had made people of the country pay for costliest petrol on the globe, he remarked.
