BJP statement will add fuel to fire: PDP

Srinagar, Jun 9 (UNI) The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a ruling coalition partner in Jammu and Kashmir, today strongly condemned the BJP for its statement that it will honour civilians for killing militants in the state, saying such remarks will add fuel to the fire and jeopardise the ongoing peace process.

''Such statements will jeopardise the ongoing peace process. The BJP leaders are adding fuel to the fire,'' a PDP spokesman said in a statement here.

He recalled the efforts put in by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and leaders of the PDP-Congress coalition government in moving forward the peace process.

The Kashmir and Jammu-centric confidence building measures have yielded a positive change at the ground situation, he added.

The spokesman said the people of the state yearning to lead a dignified life free from any violence were now fully determined to cooperate in moving forward the peace process.

He described as ''most irresponsible'' the attitude of the BJP leaders. ''It seems that they are hell-bent upon disrupting the peace process,'' the spokesman added.
