BJP bandh evokes mixed response in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, June 9 : The state-wide bandh called by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to protest against hike in the prices of petrol and diesel evoked a mixed response, even as normal life was hit in Kerala.

Shops and other business establishments across the state downed shutters and attendance in most offices, including government establishments, was reported to be low.

Public transport was off the roads except for the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation running a few buses in convoy.

Most private buses did not ply and many people, including office goers, could be seen travelling on two-wheelers.

However, no untoward incident was reported from any place.

The BJP had called for a dawn-to-dusk bandh against the price hike which they described as 'anti-people' and 'anti-poor' decision of the United Progressive Alliance Government.

The party also blamed the state government and asked it to reduce the Sales Tax on petrol and diesel to minimise the impact of price hike.
