Auto industry grows by 17.91 per cent for Apr-May 06

New Delhi, June 9 (UNI) The Automobile Industry in the country witnessed tremendous growth of 17.91 per cent for the period April-May 2006, as against the corresponding period last year, with the overall passenger vehicles segment growing by 19.83 per cent.

According to the Society of Indian Automobiles Manufacturers (SIAM) report, the passenger car sales grew up by 23.33 per cent during April-May 2006, as compared to the same period last year.

The Utility Vehicles (UVs) sales for the same period grew by 10.43 per cent, while the two-wheeler sales market grew by 15.99 per cent during April-May 2006, despite the Scooter sales dipping by 9 per cent.

The Motorcycle segment grew by 20.84 per cent while the Moped sales grew by 5 per cent.

The total three-wheeler sales grew at 25.82 per cent with the goods carrier up by 21.72 per cent and the passenger carrier segment up by 28.86 per cent during April-May 2006, over the same period last year.

The overall commercial vehicles segment grew by 53 per cent with the Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles up 59.23 per cent and the Light Commercial Vehicles up 44.44 per cent.

The overall Automobile Exports grew by 29.77 per cent with the Passenger Vehicle exports growing by 31.5 per cent.

The Two Wheeler exports went up by 24.67 per cent while the Commercial Vehicles grew at 27 per cent.
