Wipro acquires yet another software firm

Bangalore, Jun 08 (UNI) Wipro, a global service provider of technology-driven business solutions, has acquired yet another company, Saraware, third in a row since last month.

Announcing the acquisition, Mr Ramesh Emani, President Product Engineering Services of Wipro Technologies, told reporters here today that his company had clinched a deal with Saraware, for Euro 25 million. The 21-year-old company was a leading provider of design and engineering services to telecom services.

He said the acquisition would strengthen Wipro's telecom services portfolio and expand its footprint in the Nordic region. The acquisition would also add expert domain competencies in the areas of Radio Networks and Secure Mobile Platforms.

Mr Ramesh said close to 50 per cent of global market share in Wireless Infrastructure domain was dominated by major players in the Nordic belt and the acquisition of Saraware would enable Wipro to have local presence in Finland, a strategic location situated in the heart of the Nordic region.

The acquisition deal also brought Wipro niche skills in development of Base Station Controllers and mobile communication platforms. Combined with Wipro's existing competencies, it also helped to penetrate into high growth segments like secure communciations and also leverage the capability to handle complete outsourcing deals in the evolving 32 billion USD market in GSM, 3G and Tetra maarkets globally.

Describing the acquisition deal with Wipro, as a win-win partnership, Saraware CEO Risto Niva said ''Together, we will be able to establish ourselves as leaders in the Wireless Networks and Secure Mobile Platforms globally.'' Mr Sudip Nandy, Chief Strategy Officer, Wipro Technologies, said Saraware after acquisition would continue to be a 100 per cent subsidiary under Wipro. Saraware had been making profits ever since its inception and had two focussed customers under its belt.

To a question, Mr Sudip informed that Wipro had also plans to acquire a few more companies in the near future to strengthen its base overseas.

Last month, Wipro had acquired US-based Quantech Global Services LLC, a leading provider of Computer Aided Design and Engineering services to the Fortune 500 companies, for about 10 Million USD and this month, it had acquired the Portugal-based retail solutions provider 'Enabler' for Euro 41 million.
