Widespread rainfall keep mercury down in UP

Lucknow, June 8 (UNI) Widespread rainfall reported in the last 24 hrs kept the mercury level down at almost all the places in Uttar Pradesh.

The met office said here rainfall/thundershowers is likely in Lucknow, Faizabad, Varanasi, Allahabad, Kanpur and Gorakhpur divisions in the next 24 hrs.

Turtipur in Basti district recorded maximum rainfall of 9 cm.

Meanwhile, Jhansi continued to swelter at 40 degrees Celsius, while Lucknow recorded a maximum of 38 degrees, which was below normal.

Other places mainly remained dry during the period.
