ULFA shows power with serial blasts

Guwahati, Jun 8 (UNI) The banned United Liberation front of Asom (ULFA) today demonstrated its strength with a series of its grenade attack that have left 25 injured, with intelligence source expecting more attacks tonight.

The ULFA on a day their nominee PCG were invited for third round of talk by the centre, went with their trade mark style serial blasts throwing grenade at Nagaon, Mangaldoi, Dhubri and Golokganj in the state.

All the grenades exploded between 1930 to 2030 hours and the security forces were the target. However, in each of the incident the grenades missed the target and innocent civilians including evening market goers were injured.

In Mangaldoi, at least four people received serious injuries.

Earlier in the day the ULFA issued an e-mailed statement, denouncing a news report that an internal survey of PCG found out that less than one per cent people of the state actually support ULFA and its cause.

The PCG survey was a humiliating one for the ULFA, who had been demanding sovereignty. The police suspected that grenade attacks were aimed at showing their muscle power before the talks.

The ULFA had been silent for last few months and the election was peaceful where they had stayed away, only targetting some candidates.
