Two BSF officers shot dead by jawans

Agartala, June 8 (UNI) A Deputy Commandant (DC) and an Assistant Commandant (ADC) of Border Security Force (BSF) were shot dead when a junior jawan fired at them in Tripura's south District's Puran Rajnagar border outpost last night, police said today.

While the DC was killed on the spot, the seriously injured ADC died on way to hospital. Bodies of the two officers had been kept in Dr Ambedkar Medical College and Hospital at Hapania near here.

Police said the incident occurred when the BSF officers of 21 Battallion, Kameswar Singh and Alok Ranjan, after returning to the camp from patrolling saw one of the jawans roaming in the market during his duty hours and soon an altercation broke out between them.

The enraged jawan fired bullets from his service rifle on the DC from close range killing him on the spot and injuring ADC seriously, who tried to stop him. The ADC was declared dead when brought to the hospital, sources said.

The incident created panic in the area. The jawan has been arrested and is being interrogated.
