RSS chief flays caste-based reservation
Nagpur, Jun 8: Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) chief K S Sudarshan today expressed strong opposition to caste-based reservations and extended support to the ongoing agitations against the same.
Addressing the valedictory session of the 30-day ''swayamsewak'' training camp here, Mr Sudarshan said people belonging to scheduled castes were serving on high posts and do not need reservation for their children. Yet, such sections too sought reservation for their children in higher education and caste-based reservation was being misused.
He said existing reservations should continue for some more years and then be stopped altogether.
He opined that reservations should be given to people from the economically weaker sections of the society. People belonging to OBC are not backward that they should be provided reservation on caste basis, he said.
Coming down heavily on political leaders, the RSS chief said these leaders were trying to divide the society on caste lines for their own political gains and with an eye on the vote bank.
A committee should be constituted to study the economic condition of the weaker sections in the scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and OBCs and, accordingly, reservations provided for their economical upliftment, he added.
