PIB officers get new designations

New Delhi, June 8 (UNI) After almost sixty years, the Principal Information Officer (PIO) to the Government of India, has been re-designated as Director General (Media and Communications).

The PIO is the topmost official in the Indian Information Service and is equivalent to the secretary to the government.

Presently, Ms Deepak Sandhu is holding the post.

From today, the PIO office has started writing letters and communications with the new designation, an official said.

Likewise, Senior Additional Principal Information Officer (Sr APIO) has been designated as Additional Director General (Media and Communicatons). There are six such positions of the Additional Secretary rank.

Similary, more than 30 Additional PIOs have been designated as Deputy Director General (media and communications). They are all Joint Secretary rank officials.

The Director (Public Relations) will be called Director (Media and Communications), Deputy PIO as Joint Director and Information Officer becomes Deputy Director.

The order changing the designations of PIB officials was issued by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry on June 5.
