Maran forms committee to screen ILD/NLD licences
New Delhi, June 8: Minister for communications and information technology Dayanidhi Maran has constituted a three-member committee for screening fresh applications and reviewing pending applications for international long distance (ILD) and national long distance (NLD) licences.
The committee will provide ample opportunity to the applicants to explain their cases so as to minimise further queries.
It will also give necessary clarifications and advice to the intending applicants. The committee has decided to meet on every Monday at a fixed time.
Once it gives clarifications and advice, applications complete in all respects will be accepted. The committee will consist joint secretary (telecom), deputy director general (basic services) and deputy director general (value added services).
In November last year, the department of telecommunications simplified the procedures for NLD and ILD Licences to facilitate the growth of the IT and IT enabled services in the country.
It has so far received 15 applications from major companies for NLD licences and six for ILD licences which are pending at different stages of processing.
