Lorry van owners to join June 13 strike
Chennai, Jun 8 (UNI) The Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts Lorry Van Owners Associations today resolved to join the June 13 strike called by the Tamil Nadu Lorry Owners Federation to protest against the hike in petrol and diesel prices.
Representatives of the associations in the three districts, who met here at a meeting here, unanimously decided to join the state-wide strike announced by the Federation, demanding among other things roll back of the steep hike.
The meeting adopted a resolution, urging the Tamil Nadu government to reduce the sales tax on diesel and pave way for the reduction of the fuel price in the state.
In all, about 35,000 trucks, tankers, tippers, trailers and vans would be off the roads on June 13, an association spokesman said.
