Build police stations based on scientific plan: Patil
Bangalore, Jun 8 (UNI) Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil today called for construction of police stations in the country based on a scientific plan so that they served their purpose.
Talking to reporters after visiting three police stations in the city, he said a majority of the police stations in the country were built in such a way that it neither facilitated the smooth functioning of the police force nor enabled people to visit it to air their grievances.
Noting that there were over 15,000 police stations across the country, he announced that the Centre would appoint a Special Committee to draft a model plan for building police stations and houses for the policemen in a scientific manner. It would also look into the problems of the policemen. The model plan would be sent to all the states for suitable adaptation.
The states should make use of the funds provided by the Centre for building police stations with all facilities, including discussion rooms and armoury, he said, adding that the Committee would also examine the apartments built to house policemen and their families.
