Autorickshaw drivers demand subsidised petrol
Chennai, June 8 (UNI) Autorickshaw drivers in the city came to the streets for the second day today, to register their protests over the steep hike in prices of petrol and diesel.
The drivers, owing allegience to Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU), came in a procession and raised slogans, demanding the Centre to withdraw the hike or provide petrol at a subsidised rate to them.
After a brief demonstration at Royapuram area in north Chennai, they squatted on the road, holding up traffic in the busy road near a clock tower. However, they were arrested and later released by the police.
