All-out demonstration in Bengal industry

Kolkata, Jun 8 (UNI) The Left parties in West Bengal continued their agitation against the hike in oil price for the third day today as the CITU called for an allout demonstration by workers in the state's industry on June 12.

CITU state committee President Kali Ghosh today said in a statement that workers of all organised and unorganised industries would stage demonstrations, hold meetings and take out processions on the day to register their protest.

Road transport would also come to a halt for five minutes from the noon in West Bengal as a mark of a token protest by workers, he said.

Mr Ghosh said the CITU would organise sit-in demonstrations and rallies in front of the Income Tax office in Kolkata and all central government offices in districts on June 13 as part of the all-India protest day.

He said the increase in the prices of petrol and diesel would cause a spiralling effect on the prices of all essential commodities and put a heavy burden on the toiling masses.

Mr Ghosh alleged that the UPA Government was trying to mislead the people on the issue of oil price hike which in reality was aimed at offestting revenue deficit, caused by tax exemption and various facilities extended to the multinational companies.
