ONGC begins drilling in offshore block in Iran

Dubai, Jun 7: India's Oil and Natural Gas Corporation has begun drilling the first exploration well in the offshore Farsi block in Iran, the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) has announced.

Director of NIOC's exploration department Mahmud Mohaddes said the well had already been drilled to a depth of more than 1,800 metres and 17,000 lines of seismography had also been carried out.

Exploration in Tosan, Iran Mehr, and Forouz blocks is going on according to schedule, Tehran Times quoted Mr Mohaddes as saying.

A 3-D seismography will be carried out over 400 sq km in Tosan block and four exploration wells will be drilled in Iran Mehr.

Mr Mohaddes, however, stated that no contract had been signed for exploration at Iran Mehr, Tosan and Forouz blocks.
