Mah Cong begins exercise to galvanise party cadre

Mumbai, June 7 (UNI) Maharashtra Congress, which has been pushed into the corner by its ally NCP joining hands with the Sena-BJP to defeat its nominee in the Rajya Sabha by-election to be held on June 15, today announced its decision to re-start districtwise meetings to galvanise its cadre in the state.

With Zilla Parishad, Panchayat Samiti, Municipal Councils and Corporation elections to be held towards the end of this year and early 2007, the party to begin with, will focus on Western Maharashtra which is the stronghold of NCP.

Party spokesman Hussain Dalwai said all district units of the party from Western Maharashtra will get together at the Pune City Congress Committee office on June 9 to discuss party strategies for the forthcoming polls.

Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation polls are scheduled in early 2007.

District, block presidents and office bearers, working committee members, elected representatives, guardian ministers from Pune, Solapur, Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara and Pimpri-Chinchwad will attend the meeting.

State Congress President Prabha Rau is also scheduled to address a press conference at 1700 hrs on that day, Mr Dalwai said.
