First Convocation of Defence Instt of Advanced Technology

New Delhi, June 7 (UNI) President APJ Abdul Kalam will deliver the Convocation Address at the first convocation of the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), a Deemed University at Girinagar, Pune tomorrow.

The erstwhile Institute of Armament Technology, Pune achieved the status of a Deemed University in 1999 and was renamed Defence Institute of Advanced Technology earlier this year.

The autonomous Institute functions as a Grant-in-aid organisation under the auspices of the Defence Research&Development Organisation. Specialised Post-Graduate courses in the fields of Guided Missiles, Marine Engineering, Naval Weapons, Air Armament, Modelling and Simulators and Lasers and Electro-Optics are being conducted at this Defence establishment.

Master's Degrees to 39 Defence Officers and scientists will be presented by Chancellor of the University and Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

Present on the occasion will be Minister of State for Defence MM Pallam Raju and Scientific Advisor M Natarajan besides Maharashtra Governor SM Krishna and Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.
