Copper cathode production up at 40,197 tonnes in April 2006

New Delhi, June 7 (UNI) Private sector units Hindalco Industries Ltd (HINDALCO) and Sterlite Industries (India) Ltd (SIL) have contributed as much as 37,427 tonnes of the total production of copper cathode of 40,197 tonnes in the organised sector during April 2006.

Public sector Hindustan Copper Ltd (HCL) produced 2,770 tonnes, higher than the target of 2,750 tonnes.

HINDALCO produced 24,301 tonnes against a target of 27,560 tonnes and Sterlite Industries produced 13,126 tonnes against a target of 14,292 tonnes.

The production level during April 2006 also rose on a year-on-year basis from 33,640 tonnes in April 2005.
