Hyderabad, Jun 7 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today called for increase in agriculture productivity.

Releasing 26 new seed varieties developed by scientists of the Acharya N G Ranga Agriculture University here, Dr Reddy lamented India could not achieve increased productivity despite its superior agriculture techniques.

India lagged behind the advanced countries in productivity, he said adding the situation could be reversed only if the fruits of research reached the farmer.

Though 40 per cent of the seed reqirement was being met by the Agriculture University, productivity could not be increased as the farmers were not following seed replacement.

Dr Reddy assured university's scientists that his government would extend every possible help for research in order to improve productivity.
