Kanpur, June 7 (UNI) Former Union Minister Beni Prasad Varma today claimed that both the NDA and UPA governments had ''failed miserably'' and proved to be ''pro-capitalist'' dispensations which ignored the interests of the common man.

Mr Varma, who came here to condole the death of Samajawadi Party MLA Haji Mushtaq Solanki at his Jajmau residence, told mediapersons that the SP government has proved that only it could safeguard the interests of farmers and youths. ''Chief Minister Mulayam Singh is committed to changing the backward status of the state and transform Uttar Pradesh into Uttam Pradesh,'' he said.

He said several developmental activities, including power, were depending on the assistance of the Centre but due to non-cooperation from it, the state was facing a power crisis. However, efforts were on and the power situation in the state would certainly improve during the two years time, he assured.

Mr Varma expressed his heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family of Haji Mushtaq Solanki and assured all kind of help for the bereaved family. The developmental work left by Solanki would be completed by the state government, he asserted.
