Bhubaneswar, Jun 7 (UNI) BJP workers today resorted to Rasta Roko agitation at various places in Orissa in response to a token strike called by the party in protest against the hike in petrol and diesel prices.

In the state capital hundreds of BJP workers, led by Balasore Parliament Member Kharabel Swain and district President Dillip Mohanty, squatted on the road near Vani Vihar blocking the national highway number five.

The police, however, arrested nearly 150 workers from the spot and cleared the traffic.

Rasta Roko agitation was also organised at Cuttack, Jajpur, Talcher, Jaraka, Simluguda and Rayagada where the protestors blocked both the state and nation highway for more than an hour throwing traffic out of gear.

Report reaching here today said Talcher BJP MLA Mahesh Sahu and his supporters squatted on the railway track for sometime blocking the movement of goods train in support of the agitation. Train services, however, resumed after the police cleared the traffic.

BJP sources said hundreds of party workers at various places in the state were arrested for blocking the road to lodge their protest against the steep hike of petrol and diesel prices. No untoward incidents were reported from anywhere during the agitation, police said.
