New Delhi, June 7 (UNI) An Arab Cultural Centre will be set up at the Jamia Milia Islamia as part of efforts to expand Indo-West Asian ties in the sphere of culture, literature and the arts, the University said today.

The Centre would be a repository for information on the Arab world, Saudi Arabia in particular, and would seek to encourage cross-cultural exchange of scholars, including women writers and artists, the University said in a statement.

The Centre, to be funded by the University Grants Commission, may incorporate ideas and initiatives adopted by other cultural centres that the government has set up in various countries, it stated.

The step follows an announcement by Human Resources Development Minister Arjun Singh during his recent trip to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, it added.
