Agri Varsity to launch biresource project

Bangalore, Jun 7: A novel project taking cutting edge technology to farmers at their doorsteps is being launched by the University of Agricultural Sciences at Hadonahally village in Doddaballapura Taluk on June 9.

The main objective of the project was to ensure that the farming community got reasonable price for their produce through an organised marketing besides using cutting edge technology under the guidance of agriculture experts.

University Vice Chancellor M N Sheelavantar, talking to UNI here, said the novel project involved training of farmers to use technology. Over 10,000 farmers would be covered under the project in next five years, he added. The university was expected to submit a detailed progress report to the Department of Biotechnology under the Ministry of Science and Technology at the centre. The department had provided Rs 4.5 crores for the project and, if need be, was likely to enhance its allocation based on the report, he added.

The project would be launched by Union Planning Commission member V L Chopra.
