Venkaiah escapes unhurt; drunken youth fractures leg

Pondicherry, June 5 (UNI) Bharathiya Janata Party (BJP) Vice-President Venkiah Naidu escaped unhurt when the car in which he was travelling met with an accident at Kalapet, here today.

According to police, Mr Naidu was proceeding to Pondicherry from Chennai when his car hit one Ravi, 28, who was crossing the road in an inebraiated condition. Mr Naidu's driver applied brakes suddenly and the escort vehicle hit his car from the rear, causing slight damages. However, the youth fractured his leg.

Ravi, from Thayyapakkam in Chengalpet district, Tamil Nadu, had come to Pondicherry along with his friends and was crossing the road in a drunken condition, the police said.

The BJP leader took him to the Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences.
