'Mahajan family troubles not BJP's problems'

New Delhi, June 5: The BJP today said that the 'troubles' undergone by the family members of its late leader Pramod Mahajan had nothing to do with the party but that did not prevent individual leaders from advising or assisting his son Rahul.

Not contradicting former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's statements, which she termed ''soothing words of a statesman'' towards Rahul, BJP leader Sushma Swaraj told said that the party did sympathise with the unfortunate turn of events in Pramod Mahajan's family -- his own death and now his son Rahul facing troubles after alleged his ''cocaine-laced champagne party.''

''Mr Vajpayee's comments at Manali that as an youngster, everyone tended to commit mistakes and the party would bring him on the right path, were that of a 'statesman and he is always right,'' she said, adding that ''many in the BJP did their bit to help the family in distress in their individual capacity.''
