Two Naxals surrender
Ongole, Jun 5 (UNI) Two CPI(Maoist) Naxals, one of them a woman, surrendered today before Prakasham Superintendent of Police N Balasubramaniam at his camp office here.
At a press meet, the SP produced the Naxals, Nallagunda Ankamma and P Avulaiah, and appealed to extremists to join the mainstream.
Ankamma alias Radha alias Aruna belonged to Kothur village of Arthaveedu mandal. She joined the Maoists during the talks between state goverment and Maoists and was first sent to Bhavanash Dalam of Kurnool District. After four months she was shifted to Tiger Project Dalam. She was involved in the Vempenta and Yachavaram killings. She narrowly escaped six different exchanges of fire with police.
She married Dalam member Venu, who is still in the Naxal movement. She was rewarded with Rs 20,000 by the government.
Ankamma appealed to her husband to surrender.
Avulaiah alias Srinu alias Rajaiah belonged to Podalakunta Palli village. He joined the organisation in 2004. He worked in R K Protection Squad during the talks period. Later he was shifted to Bhavanash dalam and from there to Tiger Project Dalam. He was working in the Gundlakamma One Plus One Dalam. He narrowly escaped from police exchange of fire four times.
He was also rewarded Rs 20,000 cash.
