Tsunami forecast system to be introduced by March 2007
Kanpur, June 5 (UNI) Union Minister for Science, Technology and Ocean Development Kapil Sibal today said a Tsunami Forecast System would be introduced by March nextyear to save the people of coastal areas from natural disaster.
Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Sibal said it would help people living in coastal areas to shift to safer places before Tsunami strikes. ''It will save precious human lives.'' Mr Sibal said a satellite mapping system would be introduced next month at the national capital to check unauthorised construction.
''After the introduction of the system, one cannot even add a window to their houses without prior permission from municipal corporation.'' After introducing the system in Delhi, the technology can be transferred to other state governments, if so desired. ''The technology is being developed with the help of Russian Academy of Science.'' Information about the possibility and intensity of earthquakes could also be gathered through the system, he claimed.
