State's efforts on Kolleru successful

Hyderabad, Jun 5 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary T K Dewan today said the state government was successfully restoring the Kolleru Lake in Krishna District and was taking all efforts to restore Musi River in Hyderabad.

Delivering his inaugural address at a workshop on 'Environment and its impact on Human Health' organised jointly by Environment Protection Training and Research Institute (EPTRI) and a voluntary organisation 'Chetana', Mr Dewan said no other government had taken up the task of restoring Kolleru lake to its original glory.

He said in Katedan industrial area, about 52 small chemical industries were closed down as their effluents had become an environmental hazard.

He said efforts were on to close down other establishments, which were polluting the environment.

The state government was keen on reviving water bodies in the city and the work on river Musi had already begun.

EPTRI Director-General Gayathri Ramachandran said small initiatives to protect the environment would go a long way in giving good life to future generations.
