State government "responsible" for killing of retd IPS officer

Patna, June 5 (UNI) Bihar Samata Party president P K Sinha today took exception to the alleged remarks by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar holding the railways ''responsible'' for the killing of a retired DIG in a train near Patna Junction yesterday.

Talking to mediapersons, Mr Sinha said it was ridiculous on the part of Mr Kumar to pass the buck on to the railways for the killing of the retired IPS officers. ''It is the responsibility of the state government to provide security to the train passengers,'' he noted, adding that'' not long ago Mr Kumar as Railway Minister used to blame the state government for the failure to protect the lives and property of the train passengers.

He said the Government Railway Police(GRP) had the responsibility to provide security cover to the passengers as it worked under the direct control of the state government.

Mr Sinha asked the Chief Minister to take responsibility for the rising crimes in trains and take effective mesaures to prevent it.

A retired DIG, Anil Kumar Singh, was shot dead by criminals in Lok Manya Tilak express near Patna when he tried to resist their attempt to snat his valuables yesterday.
