Six surrender in AIADMK functionary's murder case
Chennai, Jun 5 (UNI) Six suspects, including the kingpin ''Vellai'' Ramesh, today surrendered before a Magistrate court in Ambur in connection with the murder of a AIADMK functionary at suburban Padi here on Friday last.
Police sources said apart from Ramesh, those surrendered before the court were Babu, Venkatesan, Michael, Parthiban and Kennedy.
A special team from Chennai, headed by the Ambattur Assistant Commissioner of Police, has left for Ambur, about 250 km from here.
After securing Prisoner of Transfer warrant, they were expected to be brought to the city for questioning.
The surrender of the six people, comes a day after police arrested one of the gang members, involved in the murder.
AIADMK Ambattur Town Secretary M R Ravi was performing pooja in his office at suburban Padi when the six-member motorcycle-borne gang hacked him to death on Friday last.
Chennai City Police Commissoner Letika Saran said previous enmity between Ramesh and Ravi on real estate business was said to be the reason for the murder.
AIADMK General Secretary and Former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa visited the family of Ravi and consoled the bereaved family members on Saturday last and alleged inaction by the Police officials.
