Postal Department to introduce new scheme from June 9

Chennai, June 5 (UNI) The Department of Posts, Tamil Nadu circle, today announced introduction of a new scheme ''Delivery of Cash at doorstep'' for the benefit of working men and women and senior citizens.

Addressing a press conference here today, Principal Chief Post Master General, Tamil Nadu circle, Vatsala Raghu said the new scheme would be introduced on June nine in all the 92 Head Post Offices in the State and in some important sub-post offices.

This add on facility was launched exclusively for Post Office Savings Bank account holders, she said.

Under the scheme, those having account with the local post office in the area, have to register their name. The customers could call up the post office and the postman would visit the customer's house to receive the withdrawal slip and pass book.

The postman then collect the cash from the post office and deliver it to the customers at their houses.

Stating that a maximum of Rs 5,000 would be allowed to be withdrawn, Ms Vatsala Raghu said a nominal charge of Rs 25 would be collected as service charges in Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai and Tiruchirapalli and Rs 20 in other places.

The scheme, under which a dedicated phone line would be installed in all the post offices, would help postman get additional incentives.
